To compare the opinions, practices, and beliefs of facility care services and home child care services. A self-administrated online survey was randomly collected from child care centers that attended local child care training workshops in central Illinois from March 2009 to May 2010. The selected topics were obesity, nutrition, emotional health, social skills, and academic self-help skills. Of the 439 child care centers in the area, 5% did not participate in child care training workshops.
Overweight children (median weight: 33 lbs.) were more prevalent at the child care training workshops. Those attending child care training workshops on nutrition believed they were helping their families; however, the research showed that children at home did not feel better because of this training. This reinforces the importance of maintaining the family’s healthy diet and lifestyle.
