Minn Kota, Minnesota is an excellent state for child care providers. Not only is the quality of educational instruction good but there are many opportunities for those who wish to serve children. One of the most important aspects of having a child care business is knowing your state’s regulations and laws. Some of these can be confusing and require a great deal of effort to learn. Fortunately, all Minn Kota programs are made to be simple to understand and provide the knowledge needed to become child care aware.

An Overview

The Department of Education publishes a Child Care Manual that any and all Minn Kota programs must comply with. This is a state issued document that outlines the most basic and essential information parents need to know in order to provide child care services in Minnesota. As the secretary of state, I have seen firsthand how important this manual is and have advocated strongly for its inclusion as a part of every family’s child care aware routine. This manual would make a great learning tool for anyone wanting to further their knowledge about child care laws and Minn Kota.

Every year Minnesota requires all families to complete a CCTI training. This is required as a part of becoming certified to provide child care. CCTI stands for Comprehensive Training in Care Administration and has been developed by the Department of Education in order to help ensure state compliance for child care providers who want to operate in Minnesota. While Minn Kota and other organizations offer a CCTI training, it is important for families to understand that each state has their own laws and requirements.

The CCTI training is administered three times annually through separate certification programs. First, there is the Certified Care Technician (CCT) program, which is offered to individuals who are looking to begin working in this field; CPT instructors must be licensed in their state to be able to work in Minnesota. The next program, the Certified Developmental Service Provider (CDSP) certification program, is available to those who have completed and passed the first two exams offered by the state.

Both of these programs are designed to provide the highest level of care training possible. Those wishing to become CCTs must pass both a written CCTI test and a skills testing administered by a third party. If one does not pass either exam, they will be required to take the entire CCTI course over again. Second, after one has passed both exams, they must complete a community service or probationary work program in order to be certified. The training requirements for this last requirement, probationary work, is designed to ensure that child care providers have the tools, knowledge, and experience they need in order to be a good role model for children while still fulfilling their community service obligations.

Those wishing to become CDSPs need to meet certain educational and credentialing requirements in order to apply for the certification. Applicants for these programs must first complete an approved training program. If you decide to pursue a career in child care, it is always a good idea to complete any and all required training programs as a means of protecting your future. The training received from any of these programs will help to prepare the person for their role as a CNA as well as other career opportunities.

Child care training programs can be found at local community colleges, vocational schools, four-year universities, and at a variety of other private and public institutions. Some of these programs can even be obtained through HCAHPS (Healthcare Training Centers for Children) hospitals. While it is possible to gain care training without completing a formal education program, most CNA’s will benefit most from at least one CNA training course. Certificate programs or continuing education programs typically cover topics such as nutrition, anatomy, and physiology, as well as medical ethics, professional standards, and basic nursing skills.

In The End

There are a number of ways to get CNA certification if you choose to work in the field. However, the most common way to get certified as a CNA is to participate in an approved training program. This way, the necessary experience, education, and on the job training will be completed without the student spending money and time on a formal education program. While it is possible to find CNA classes to complete on your own, most states require that CNA’s complete formal training prior to working in the field. For those who do not wish to take this extra step, there are a number of good, quality courses available on the Internet that will allow you to learn everything you need to know about child care as soon as possible.
